Trump Administration Restricted IG’s Access in JEDI Contract Investigation

On new audit report stating Defense Department inspector general could not fully review contested $10 billion JEDI Cloud contract because of “presidential communications privilege,” Lisa Rosenberg issued the following statement.

In yet another attack on federal inspectors general and oversight, the Trump administration claimed executive privilege to undermine the Pentagon’s investigation into whether there was an improper political influence on the $10 billion JEDI contract. It is unacceptable for the White House to cover up its communications with DoD officials, especially given that the Inspector General Empowerment Act mandates that IGs be given access to all materials relevant to an investigation. While the DoD IG office believes the evidence does not show pressure between DoD officials in the JEDI contract decision, the White House must allow access to all relevant information for the public to trust that political pressure did not influence the contract award.
