Senate’s “Flawed” Vote on January 6 Commission

Washington, DC — On the Senate’s vote blocking commission to investigate Capitol attack, Lisa Rosenberg, Executive Director of Open The Government issued the following statement:

“Senate Republicans’ decision today to block the legislation that would create a January 6 commission is a flawed attempt to minimize the gravity of the attack and contradicts accountability in government. The attack on the seat of the U.S. government claimed the lives of several people and injured 140 police officers – that is a fact the Mitch McConnell-led faction in the Senate can never change. The public deserves a complete accounting of what happened despite the Senate’s vote. In the spirit of the strong bipartisan support the bill garnered in the House, we urge House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to move forward with a select committee to investigate the attack thoroughly.”
