President Obama has charged the Public Interest Declassification Board with designing a more fundamental transformation of the security classification system. In response, the PIDB are proposing new solutions that address the shortcomings of the current system and tackle the challenges of digital records.
Every other Wednesday over the next eight weeks, the Board will post either two or three “white paper” synopses to a blog describing an element of their proposed transformation. The Board encourages you to post your comments on the white papers — some of which are open for comment now — under their respective threads and comment on the posts of others. White papers will address the following topics:
Using Technology to Improve Classification and Declassification
Reconsidering Information Management in the Electronic Environment
Regularizing the Declassification Review of Classified Congressional Records
Pursuing Discretionary Declassification and Advantageous Release
Simplifying the Declassification Review Process for Historical Records
Stewarding Our Classified History
Information Security and Access in the Electronic Environment
A Half-Life for Historical Formerly Restricted Data (FRD)
