OTG pushes Archivist to preserve Senate torture report

Following reports that the CIA inspector general’s office had “mistakenly” destroyed it’s only copy of the Senate torture report, OpenTheGovernment.org sent a follow-up to the April 28th letter in which groups called on the Archivist of the United States to ensure the preservation of the report.

The follow-up letter, dated May 17, draws attention to a recent Court of Appeals decision, which made clear that “whether the full report is publicly released under FOIA is a separate question from whether it was received and is appropriate for preservation by the Executive Branch.” In the letter, OTG reiterated the urgency of ensuring that the report is preserved, and once again called on the Archivist to meet with civil society.
