OpenTheGovernment.org, Partners, and Others Support Legislation to Repeal SEC FOIA Exemption

Thirty-five organizations concerned with accountability and transparency, including several coalition partners, joined OpenTheGovernment.org in sending a letter in support of S. 3717, a bill introduced by Senators Leahy (D-VT), Cornyn (R-TX), Kaufman(D-DE), and Grassley (R-IA) to strike the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) exemptions created for certain records provided to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) under Section 929I of the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (Dodd-Frank Act). A similar letter was sent in support of a companion bill (HR 6086) introduced by Representative Towns (D-NY).
