Improve Access to Congressionally Mandated Reports

Help make the thousands of reports federal agencies prepare each year at the request of Congress easier for the public to find! Ask your Member of Congress to co-sponsor HR 1380, the Access to Congressionally Mandated Reports Act. Each year federal agencies are required to submit thousands of reports to Congress that include valuable information about what agencies are doing and how they are spending taxpayer dollars. Currently, these reports commonly end up collecting dust on shelf or posted in a relatively obscure section of the agency's website. HR 1380 requires any report issued to Congress or its committees and releasable under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to be posted on a website managed by the US Government Printing Office (GPO).

The bill was introduced by introduced by Congressional Transparency Caucus Co-chair Representative Mike Quigley (D-IL) and Ranking Member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Elijah Cummings (D-MD), and has been endorsed by more than 25 organizations dedicated to openness and accountability. The bill has bipartisan support and was unanimously passed by the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform during the 112th Congress.
