Groups demand transparency & accountability in U.S. airstrikes

Thursday, OpenTheGovernment joined a coalition of human rights and government accountability organizations in demanding greater transparency around U.S. airstrikes overseas. Following reports that the White House may be considering weakening policy standards for U.S. use of force overseas, the groups called on the administration to “prioritize transparency and accountability” by:

  • Implementing better investigation and redress policies across relevant agencies
  • Acknowledging all lethal strikes and publishing consistent information on civilian harm
  • Disclosing all applicable legal and policy frameworks for U.S. counterterrorism operations
  • Providing all relevant information to appropriate Congressional oversight bodies
