Hill Briefing on Private Prisons: Transparency, Accountability, and the Private Prisons Information Act (PPIA)

November 1, 2019

Open The Government and the ACLU will co-host a briefing to discuss the lack of accountability surrounding private prisons, jails, and detention centers that house federal inmates. The briefing will review Senators Cardin and Leahy’s efforts to solve this problem via the introduction of the Private Prisons Information Act (PPIA), which would amend the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Following opening remarks from the bill’s sponsors, OTG’s Executive Director Lisa Rosenberg will moderate a panel of guest speakers and experts in this field, including:

– Eunice Cho, Senior Staff Attorney, ACLU’s National Prison Project

– Mia Woodard, Legislative Affairs and Policy Counsel, CREW
