On April 28, OTG joined 30 other open government, civil liberties, human rights, and media organizations in a letter to the Archivist of the United States, calling on him to ensure the preservation of the Senate torture report. The letter was written in response to reports that the Department of Justice had instructed other agencies not to read or discuss the study, and further calls on the Archivist to declare the torture report a Federal Record under 44 U.S.C. § 3301.
The letter also requests that the Archivist hold a meeting with civil society groups to discuss the handling and preservation of the report.
