Open the Government, the only nonpartisan coalition dedicated to advancing openness for accountability, seeks to strengthen democracy and empower the public by advancing policies that create a more open and accountable government.

As a coalition hub, OTG provides our partners with opportunities to exchange information; we amplify their voices, and provide them with tools and products to aid their own advocacy.

We are looking for an entrepreneurial, motivated, coalition builder to collaborate and coordinate with our 119 diverse partner organizations. The Coalition Organizer will develop and implement programs, tools and events in order to strengthen our work with and on behalf of our partners.

The Coalition Organizer will take these activities to the next level, ensuring we are strategically working with groups in and outside of our coalition and providing them with the most useful opportunities to connect and collaborate. As an organizational matchmaker, the Coalition Organizer will link “strange-bedfellows” with common interests to advance issues of accountable government.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Event/Programming Design and Implementation – Create, plan and implement tools and events (10-20 per year) for coalition partners and other stakeholders
  • Regularly connect with partners to have them inform the types of tools and events OTG offers
  • Act as a matchmaker for organizations within our community 
  • Establish whether particular organizations or types of organizations would strengthen the coalition, and engage in outreach to bring them on board
  • In conjunction with the Communications Director, produce communications to educate and inform partners and the public
  • Manage all aspects of events, including working with local partners, handling logistics, and coordinating with Communications Director and Policy Analysts on relevant media and policy outreach 


  • Entrepreneurial self-starter with new ideas to bring coalition partners together and strengthen their ability to create a more accountable government
  • BA, BS  in public policy, nonprofit management or related field and at least 3-5 years in relevant work experience in program development, community organizing and/or coalition building,
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized, with strong attention to detail
  • Strong communicator (written and oral), and comfort with public speaking
  • Passion for and some familiarity/expertise with open government issues
  • Collegial team player with a sense of humor
