Lessons Learned

Everyday there are thousands of people around the country advocating for access to information, defending the public's right to know, getting and using government information, standing up against secrecy. Unfortunately, we as a community rarely get the chance to pool these experiences and learn from each other's efforts. This is our chance.

Tell Your Story & Teach Others

We hope to compile a long list of actions and strategies that have been used by groups trying to improve access to information and reduce government secrecy. This will include both wins and losses -- we can learn from both when examined honestly. A database of previous efforts will help other groups come up with future activities, be more successful, avoid common pitfalls, develop better message points and much more.

Please help us develop this tool by briefly describing an effort or strategy that you tried and the general outcome by submitting an email to us. Please include name, organization, address, telephone number, fax number, email address, and the text of your story. Also, please let us know if we can share your story with others.

Thank you, and please encourage others to visit this page.
